Globalfoundries plant EUV-productie voor 2015

De Amerikaanse contractfabrikant Globalfoundries is van plan om eind 2012 een EUV-lithografieproductiemachine te installeren. Massaproductie met extreem ultraviolet start naar verwachting in 2014 of 2015. Dat zei technologietopman Gregg Bartlett tijdens zijn keynote op Semicon West. Het EUV-apparaat wordt geďnstalleerd in Globalfoundries’ Fab 8 in het Amerikaanse Malta.
Bartlett vertelde verder dat Globalfoundries ervan heeft afgezien een EUV-preproductietool aan te schaffen. Andere chipconcerns zoals Intel, Samsung, Toshiba en TSMC bestelden al wel zo’n proefmachine bij ASML. ‘We hebben sterk het gevoel dat de industrie nood heeft aan een kostenefficiënte EUV-lithografieoplossing voor volumeproductie’, aldus Bartlett. ‘Falen is geen optie.’
